Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The first General Assembly of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place under its new form in 1963 with the denomination of Paphos Industrial and Commercial Federation in Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was then connected with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Province of Paphos covers 1395 square kilometres and it represents roughly the 15% of the total extent of Cyprus. With a population around 66000 residents, it also represents the 10% of the total population of the island.

The particularities of Paphos with her infrequent beauties that are extended by the sea up to the mountain tops and her forests, the alternations of landscapes and colours, her world and her rich cultural heritage, lend enough comparative advantages, especially in the sector of tourist growth.

The growth of the City and Province of Paphos began slowly slowly after 1974 and was continued with low rythms up to the 80's.
After this period begins a spectacular development of the region with accelerating rythms which cover all the sectors of economic activity, with epicentre the sector of Services and more specifically the tourist sector. This growth was rapid and to a large extent unverifiable.
The course of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry was ascendant and from his orders passed appreciable businessmen which with their attendance in the Administrative Councils contributed in the award of Chamber, as the unforgettable Honorary Chairmen Plato Antoniades and Glafkos Nikolaides, the Honorary Chairmen Loizos Havouzaris, Michalakis Koniotis, Evanthis Hadzimitsis and Giannakis Loukas, the former Chairmen Theodoros Aristodemou, Andreas Dimitriades and Themis Filippides up to the present Chairman Mr Kyriacos Droussiotis where with the experiences, the prestige

and their hard work contributed in the economic growth of Paphos and Cyprus in general.

The Paphos Chamber has been twinned with the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Patra in 1975 and with the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Chios in 1989. In 2000 an enterprising collaboration was signed with the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Serres.

Since 1997 the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is housed in its new, privately owned offices on Athens Avenue, which are equipped with all the modern equipment in order to be able to correspond in the new role that it is called to play.

Today the Chamber numbers 500 members and includes 6 professional Associations. The Association of Paphos Hoteliers as well as the Association of Travel Agents are accomodated already in the privately-owned offices of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also providing them with secretarial and other services.

Via the Wide Tourist Committee of Paphos in which participate all the Local Authorities of Paphos province and the institutions of the tourist sector, spotlight internationally the Paphos region as a quality tourist destination.
Beyond the tourist sector, according to the Chamber's thesis for a balanced growth of all sectors and activities of economy, it promotes the construction of all the necessary infrastructure of the region and the growth of Industry.
Last but not least, the paphos Chamber promotes the resolution of basic problems that constitute suspensive factors in the growth of Industry and Trade.

The most important initiative of Chamber is the development of a study for constant, long-term growth of Paphos Province.

The Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the main representative of business world of Paphos, has undertaken the responsibility to develop a complete regional study, which will play important role as the guide to the determination of developmental course of Paphos region in the twentieth first century.

It publishes on a quarter-yearly basis an informative bulletin with the activities and the places of Chamber called the Step of Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
